Oregon is in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and is located on the Pacific coast, with Washington to the north, California to the south, Nevada on the southeast and Idaho to the east.

The Columbia and Snake rivers delineate much of Oregon's northern and eastern boundaries respectively.

The area was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before the arrival of traders, explorers and settlers who formed an autonomous government in Oregon Country in 1843.T

Oregon has an estimated population of 3,641,056, which is an increase of 49,693, or 1.4%, from the prior year and an increase of 219,620, or 6.4%, since the year 2000. This includes a natural increase since the last census of 75,196 people (that is 236,557 births minus 161,361 deaths) and an increase due to net migration of 150,084 people into the state.

Immigration from outside the United States resulted in a net increase of 72,263 people, and migration within the country produced a net increase of 77,821 people.
