Where To Find California Court Records
When it comes to keeping track of records, California court records are a great example, they keep track of all court proceedings, and of course, many of them are public, meaning you can research the records to help with a case you may have, or to find information about a case.
Record keeping used to mean a bunch of paper work, painstakingly hand written and then of course typed, and then the paper was stored. If you wanted to see those records, you usually had to go to a big building and then find the numbers that corresponded with the court record, write that down and then hand it to the records clerk.
That clerk would then head into the depths of the building and all of the files to find the paper work by hand and then bring it back to you. You were not allowed to remove the paperwork from the room, but sometimes were allowed to get copies made of them but this usually cost a per page fee, and if the records were immense, then it added up very quickly.
The next innovation was to put these records on micro film, you could then read about the records but still had to go through the above process if you wanted copies. Nowadays it's totally different. You can find court records pretty easily.
The techno age of today has give court record keeping a whole new way of handling records. Now most of the records are kept in computer files and if they are public records and not sealed by the court you can access them online.
You'll still probably need some information about the court case, but as long as it's public you can find them. If you cannot find them, you'll again need to head to the county or city court records department and seek out help. Almost all the state, county, and city records are usually backed up on computer disk or at least backup up online somewhere.
Now, if you want copies of those records it makes it a little different. It's all according to whether you need originals such as birth records or divorce or you just want copies of court case information.
If you need California court records for birth or death it's going to cost you a bit of money and you'll have to have them mailed as well. Just remember if you need these records right away, you may need to go in person as it can take weeks to get them via the mail system.
Also, you can't go and get just anyone's birth or death certificate, you have to be family or a legal representative to get a legal copy. You can request information purpose only records such as if you were putting together a family tree or something, these also cost.
California court records are available in many places, and it doesn't take waiting in an office for a clerk to come back from the depths of the building anymore.
